Man charged with enticing child

Three men are currently being held for violations with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stemming from an incident involving a minor at Red Bay’s midget football league game this past weekend.

Amner Obel Lopez Figueroa, 23, whose residence is listed as being Guatemala, has been charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes and interference with custody, both Class C felonies.

Figueroa has also been charged with public intoxication along with Adelson Picon Diaz, 26, Guatemala, and Antonio Chavez Carrillo, 30, Guatemala.

According to authorities, the alleged incident took place about 7:30 p.m. when the seven-year-old victim was playing in an area of  the stadium during the game.

She was approached by Figueroa who hugged her and asked her to come inside the bathroom with him, officials said.

The victim told her parents about the incident and authorities were immediately notified, officials said.

“The suspects were initially arrested on the public intoxication charges, but upon completion of the investigation, the additional charges were added on Figueroa,” Red Bay Police Chief Janna Jackson said.

Even though this was a small town function, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing feels it illustrates the importance of keeping your children close to you in a public setting.

“It only takes a dew seconds for a child to come into contact with individuals who want to abuse them in some way,” Rushing said.

“The Red Bay PD is working with the Park and Recreation Department to try to prevent incidents like this from happening in the future,” Jackson said. “We plan to have more officers at the games to watch for any suspicious activity.”

Figueroa has been transported to the Franklin County Jail where his felony bond has been set at $75,000.

However, it was discovered after the three suspects were arrested that they are each wanted on felony charges from other states, so all three suspects will be held on these violations as well as violations with ICE.
