All-Stars win big Sylacauga

The Russellville Little League All-Stars had hot bats in their first game of the state tournament and rolled to a 14-1 victory against Phenix City.

Austin Kitterman doubled in the second inning before Austin Odom homered to put Russellville ahead 2-0.

The team added to its lead in the third inning when Taylor Vincent, Joshua Seal and Reed Smith led off the inning with back-to-back-to-back home runs. Russellville then hit four consecutive singles before Trent Miller cleared the bases with a two-run home run to increase Russellville’s lead to 10-1.

Kitterman drew a walk and Odom singled in the fourth inning. Hunter James brought them home with another homer.

Kitterman, Odom and James split pitching duties, combining to allow three hits and striking out five batters.

Russellville continued its power hitting during a 3-2 victory against Jackson.

Neither team scored through three innings, but Seal drew a walk in the bottom of the fourth and Smith homered to give Russellville a 2-0 lead. Kitterman followed Smith’s home run with a solo homer to extend the lead to 3-0.

Jackson added one run in the fifth and another in the sixth, but Russellville was able to hold on for the win.

Sid Willis struck out eight batters in 3.2 innings of work. Kitterman and James also pitched.

Russellville will play the winner of the Brewton-Huntsville Eastern game Thursday.
