Spruce Pine to host arts and crafts show

SPRUCE PINE – Attention all arts and crafts lovers! The Spruce Pine Historical Society is hosting an arts and crafts show Saturday, June 12 beginning at 6 a.m. and lasting all day.

Society President Joann Gandy said the arts and crafts vendors will be inside the community center.

“Linda South organized this event, and she still needs vendors for the show,” Gandy said. “Tables are $10 inside the community center. We hope to have different things like quilts, pottery, and jewelry. Just stuff people like to make, and sell.”

Gandy said all proceeds go to fund the community center the restoration of the old storefront, which will be the Spruce Pine Museum.

Outside the community center, individuals are encouraged to set up their yard sales as well. The cost to set up outside will be $5.

“We will be serving breakfast all day for anyone who wants to eat it, but I think we might can fix a hot dog or something for those who want lunch,” Gandy joked.

The arts and crafts show is one of many fundraisers the historical society has had to raise money for the community center.

“We’ve had a lot of help from Sen. Bedford and Johnny Mack Morrow, but most of our support comes in a little at a time from individuals giving here or there,” Gandy said. “So no donation is too small.”

Gandy said they need funding to pay utilities for the community center, and to finish the restoration of the storefront museum.

“We are very excited about the museum,” Gandy said. “We hope to have the outside restored by the Spruce Pine Day this October. Then, we will start on the inside.”
