Funfest attracts hundreds of kids

Hundreds of children enjoyed a day of fun and free education during the fourth annual Fun Fest hosted by the Russellville Police Reserves.
Reserve President Ken Shannon said the reserves gave out over 200 t-shirts, but they estimated that approximately 400 kids attend the event held at Sloss Lake in Russellville.
“We had a great turn out for this year’s event,” Shannon said.
The kids played on large inflatable activities explored fire truck and an ambulance, and were able to learn about fire safety from the Fire Safety House.
A new addition to the fun fest was the Marine Police, who monitor and enforce the laws on the waterways of Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale counties.
Shannon said Funfest is not only a day of fun but to inform children about different areas of safety.
“The kids were given a card, and they had the  class recorded on the index card,” Shannon said.
“Those who attended all the classes were entered into a drawing for a prize.   We had tons of white cards so we feel the children took advantage of the classes offered.”
At the end of the day, one boy’s bike and one girl’s bike was given away. Savannah Chaney won the girl’s bike and Ethan Chandler won the boy’s bike.
“We’d like to thank all our sponsors for helping make this possible,” Shannon said.
“We could not have done it without them.”
