RMS all-girl choir honored

Russellville Middle School sent 60 choral students to have their musical talents exploited Thursday, Feb. 25 at the district performance assessment for school choral groups.
This is the first time RMS has ever participated in the event that measures and categorizes where groups fall in terms of performance level and cite reading capability.
RMS choral director Emily Rush said there were two separate groups who participated in the event, a mixed choral group and an all girl chorus.
Rush said being their first year, she just hoped to expose her students to the experience.
Expectations may have been stagnant, but the RMS all-girl chorus, filled with seventh and eighth grade girls, walked away with superior ratings and received an invitation to perform at the state assessment, which takes place in the Birmingham area on March 25.
All-State chorus auditions were held earlier this year and six out of 12 RMS choral students were accepted into that group. Those six included Brooklyn Hall, Taylor Hollimon, Madison Thompson, Savannah Mills, Julie Masterson and Sarah Aycock. All six of these girls were also involved in the all-girl chorus at the district assessment.
The state assessment will include more challenging cite singing along with more critical judges.
