Red Bay council welcomes Ukrainian missionaries

Missionaries from the Ukraine were honored as guest speakers during Monday night’s Red Bay City Council meeting.
Larisa Enkiria and Pedro Anderson shared stories about their journey of becoming full-time volunteers/missionaries for God.
Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow met Enkiria and Anderson during an escapade to the Ukraine. Enkiria has been volunteering in the Ukraine for five years.
Anderson decided to join Enkiria a year ago during a seminar in Houston, Texas. Morrow convinced Enkiria and Anderson to come visit Alabama and share their testimonies of service and goodwill.
They found the time in their schedules and brought with them a sense of compassion to lead people to Christ and entertainment ability through musical duets.
Russia native Enkiria and Portland, Ore., native Anderson are associated with the Family Care Foundation made up of 11 volunteers/missionaries based out of California.
City Council member Charlene Fancher commended the missionaries for their selflessness during their introduction.
Enkiria and Anderson will be visiting Red Bay High School at 1 p.m. today to share their testimonies with the student body.
Following the missionaries’ stories, The Red Bay Garden Club presented their 2009 Streetscape Awards. Three categories of awards were given to businesses from around the Red Bay area.
The City Council then continued with business passing a new oridinance relating to privilege licensing of businesses. The council also approved a bid of $628,148 by Johnson Contractors Inc. of Muscle Shoals to upgrade the city of Red Bay’s wastewater treatment lagoon and lift station.
The Red Bay Sewage Board had met previously and approved the bid before it reached the city council.
In other business, the city council accepted a bid from Harold Oswalt Construction to build a multi-purpose pavilion at Red Bay’s Family Fun Park. An ADECA grant was set aside to fund the $20,331.70 project that will include treated lumber. The deadline for completion has been scheduled for Jan. 29.
