THARPTOWN – Due to the consolidation of schools in the Lawrence County School System, the Tharptown football team will have a rare opportunity this week.
The Wildcats will have a chance to get revenge against Phillips for their opening week loss. Tharptown began the season with a 62-16 loss to the Bears.
Thanks to a scheduling quirk because of the consolidation, the Wildcats host Phillips Friday.
Tharptown played perhaps its sloppiest game of the season in the opener.
Several turnovers led to points for the Bears and a handful of bad penalties either stalled Tharptown drives or kept Phillips drives going.
The Wildcats can be expected to play tough this week as they try to build on last week's 25-20 victory against Waterloo.
Tharptown (1-2, 1-2) would like to even up its overall record with a win this week, which is homecoming for the Wildcats.
The game, which does not count in region standings, begins at 7 p.m. at Tharptown.
