Chizik era begins in Auburn

By Staff
The Gene Chizik era begins tonight as Auburn welcomes Louisiana Tech to Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The Tigers lead the all-time series 10-0-1 and won the last meeting 52-7 in 2004.
Two Auburn seniors will have a chance to move up in the Auburn record books against the Bulldogs.
Running back Ben Tate needs 41 rushing yards to become only the 13th player in Auburn history to gain 2,000 career yards on the ground.
Defensive end Antonio Coleman has 14.5 career sacks entering the game. If he adds one more, he will move to No. 10 on the all-time Auburn list.
The pressure in on Chizik, however, as he tries to prove he belongs as a Southeastern Conference head coach. He was a defensive coordinator for the Tigers from 2002-04 before taking the coordinator job at Texas.
He spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Iowa State where he amassed a 5-19 record.
The last four Auburn head coaches all won their debut games, and the last time the Tigers lost a season opener was in 2005 – a 23-14 loss to Georgia Tech.
