Aderholt pays visit to city

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt made a stop in Russellville Tuesday to speak with local leaders about several ongoing projects.
Aderholt met with city council members and industrial development officials before discussing several national issues with Civitan Club members.
"I thought we had a very productive tour of the town with the congressman," said City Councilman Jeff Masterson.
"He was anxious to visually see the projects we've discussed with him. Overall it was just a great opportunity for the city and county to have this contact with Mr. Aderholt as he looks for ways to help his constituents."
Aderholt said he saw many positive signs in the county, including the addition of industrial recruiting tools.
"You will have great prospects over the next several years," Aderholt said.
He spoke with the local Civitan Club about national issues, such as the American Clean Energy and Security Act, which he believes will hurt Alabamians.
"Several states have the ability to make electricity from wind and solar, but Alabama and other states lack natural resources to do this," Aderholt said.
He said most all of Alabama's delegation voted against the measure and he hopes it stalls in the Senate. The bill passed the House by a four-vote margin.
Aderholt also discussed President Obama's health care plan, which has drew criticism from the Republican Party.
"Both parties believe and want health care reform," he said.
"We just have different views on how to do it."
Aderholt said his party chooses to implement market-based reforms, rather than government backed plans.
The Haleyville congressman was not the only member of Alabama's delegation to be in the area Tuesday.
Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions met with local leaders Tuesday night for dinner at Goodsprings Fish and More in Russellville. Read the FCT's Weekender edition to learn more about this meeting.
