RFD, RPD team up for fundraiser

Next week, the Russellville Fire Department will take on the Russellville Police Department in a fundraiser basketball game to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Firefighter Rhett Bradford said the fire department collects money for the MDA all during the year as part of their 'Fill the Boot Campaign.'
"We do the 'Fill the Boot Campaign all through the year, and we try to have one big fundraiser each year," Bradford said.
This year's fundraiser will have the firefighters fighting police officers in the basketball game to see who comes out on top.
"Neil [Willis] mentioned the idea, and we approached Chris [Hargett]," Bradford said. "They agreed to do it."
The game will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Russellville Middle School gym. Admission is a $2 donation, which will go to benefit MDA.
In addition to getting to see the department battle it out on the court, there will be a halftime half court toss.
"At halftime, three people will be selected to take a shot at half court for a grand prize," Bradford said. "We haven't decided on the prize just yet, but we are working on it."
The entry fee for the half court shoot is $1.
"Remember, if you don't enter, you definitely can't win the half court shoot, so don't forget to get your name in the drawing," Bradford said.
Bradford said the department is hoping to secure some door prizes for the game as well.
The "Fill the Boot Campaign" is an effort made by fire department's nation-wide to raise money for MDA.
