Herbert Edward Smith, 83, of Russellville, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center
Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral was Tuesday, June 16, at Spry Memorial Chapel, with Bro. Stanley Hargett officiating. Interment was in Old Bethel Cemetery in Leighton.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Jo Smith, Russellville; daughters, Peggy Mitchell and husband Wayne, of Moulton; Diane Hyde and husband Bobby, of Russellville; grandchildren, Selena Nelson and husband Tommy, Jeremy Mitchell and wife Merenda, Mandi Nunley and husband Brandon, Seth Hyde and wife Krystal; great-grandchildren Kaylee Nelson, Jayden Mitchell, Jessie Mitchell, Kasey Nunley, Lane Nunley, Clara Nunley, Karson Hyde; and sister, Hurstine Saint, Pontiac Mich.
Pallbearers were Tommy Nelson, Jeremy Mitchell, Brandon Nunley, Seth Hyde, Jimmy Smith and Dwight Lowry. Honorary pallbearers were Dan Smith, Paul Bowling, Allen Counts, Billy Lusk, J.W. Parker, Mark Lane, Jimmy Day, James Walker Stanley and Willard Blankenship.

Lisa Renae Strickland, 25, of Golden, Miss., died Monday, June 8, 2009 at her residence. She was born November 30, 1983, in Mississippi to Dennis and Martha Coats Kennedy. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Belmont, Miss.
Visitation was 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Services were Thursday, June 11, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Wilson and Bro. Jerry George officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Red Bay.
She is survived by parents, Dennis and Martha Kennedy, Golden, Miss.; son, Christopher Adam Strickland, Golden, Miss., step-son Jonathan Strickland, Fairview, Miss., brother, Michael Seth Kennedy, Golden, Miss., grandmother Jean Kennedy, Golden, Miss., grandfather Herman Coats, Vina, and aunt Linda Coats, Vina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Strickland; grandfather Lewis Kennedy and grandmother Girlene Coats.
Pallbearers were Stephen George, Keith Justice, David Smith, Greg Pharr, Jackie Wingo and Aulsie Bolton.
Bertie V. Seal

Bertie V. Seal, 83, of Spruce Pine, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Russellville Hospital.
She was a native of Franklin County and member of Spruce Pine Church of Christ.
Graveside services were Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Pounders Cemetery in Spruce Pine with James Phillips officiating.
Survivors include daughter, Deborah Hargett; son, Jeffery J. Gibson, both of Spruce Pine;
12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Seal; sisters, Lois Lang, Ula Garrett, Helen Garrett; brother, Bobby Pounders.
Julian P. Guy

Julian Pickens Guy, 89, of Russellville, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009. The visitation was from 10-11 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service held on Monday, June 15, 2009, at Akins Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Stancil officiating. Interment was in Cedar Creek Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Nummy Guy; parents, Albert and Nina Powell Guy; brothers, Joe Guy, Albert Guy; niece, Mary Ellen McCurley.
He is survived by a brother, Lawrence E. Guy and wife, Elizabeth of Tucker, Ga.; nephew, Raymond Guy and wife, Myra of Marietta, Ga.; 6 great nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Joan Watts Ghrigsby.
He served in the Army during WWII as a military photographer in North Africa.
