Russellville 52,
Cullman 48
Terence Smith recorded a double-double to help lead the Golden Tigers to a 52-48 victory against Cullman Tuesday. Smith scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Russellville.
Jermaine Bates added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Tigers while Will Bostick scored 11, Nate Dunstan scored four and Mark Davis added two points.
Russellville improved to 3-0 and will host Sparkman Saturday.
Cherokee 81,
Red Bay 38
The Cherokee defense was able to contain the Red Bay offense, preventing any Tiger from reching double-digit scoring in the Indians' 81-38 win.
Curtis Morrell led the Tigers with seven points while Steven Nabers and Cody Reynolds scored five points each.
Also scoring for Red Bay were Andy Thorn (4), Cory Timbs (3), Blake Brummet (3), Nathan Gray (3), Zach Hubbard (3), Andre Newell (3) and Chase Lindsey (2).
Phillips 77,
Tharptown 50
Manny Ricardo and Jacob Parker each scored 12 points, but it was not enough as the Wildcats fell to Phillips 77-50.
Also scoring for Tharptown were Tyler Cagle (9), Trevor Hallmark (8), Drew Ergle (3), Mackinney Flannigan (3) and Matt Austin (2).
Mars Hill 63,
Phil Campbell 54
Phil Campbell had three players reach doubl-digit scoring, but the Bobcats could not overcome the potent Mars Hill offense during a 63-54 loss in area play.
Matt Waid scored 13 points while Adam Mitchell and Lawrence Butts scored 12 points each for Phil Campbell.
Also scoring for the Babcats were Pablo Santiago (8), Austin Nix (7) and Jordan Benford (2).
Girls
Russellville 60,
Cullman 43
Erin Reynolds helped lead the Lady Golden Tigers past Cullman 60-43 with a 20-point performance Tuesday night.
Tasha West also reached double figures, scoring 16 points.
Janarie Donley added nine points for Russellville while Amber Elliot scored five, Fiara Phillips scored four, Taylor Smith scored three, Halie Harvey scored two and Rebecca Mitchell scored one.
Red Bay 62,
Cherokee 20
The Lady Tiger defense played strong Tuesday, limiting Cherokee to only six points in the second half as Red Bay cruised to a 62-20 win in area play.
Whitney Sharp scored 13, Hannah Sharp added 12 and Morgan Duncan scored 11 to lead Red Bay.
Also scoring for Red Bay were Shantell Nichols (7), Lauren Williams (4), Caitlin Childers (4), Leah Fuller (4), Emily Barksdale (3), Kirsten Sharp (2) and Britton Bolding (2).
Tharptown 56,
Phillips 37
Hollie Hines scored 18 points to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 56-37 victory against area foe Phillips.
Autumn Hatton added 13 points and Laken Barnett scored 10 for Tharptown.
Also scoring for Tharptown were Jessica Myrick (5), Beth Lane (4), Kendra Baker (4) and Heather Hatton (2).
Mars Hill 66,
Phil Campbell 43
Caitlin Stancil scored 20 points while Jessica Taylor added 16 points for the Lady Bobcats, but it was not enough as Mars Hill escaped with a 66-43 victory.
Also scoring for Phil Campbell were Whitley Yocum (3), Shannon Gassaway (2) and Scott (2).
