Roger Russell Davis

Roger Russell Davis, 45, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008. He was a Catholic and 1980 graduate of Haleyville High School.
Funeral services were held Sept. 24 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Bro. Tim Pfander officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his father, John Davis; sisters, Cynthia Davis Locarno and Suzanne Davis Dodd; and one niece and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Davis.
Pinkard Funeral Home assisted the family.

Gynndelon Sue Pate, 52, of Haleyville passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Funeral services were held Sept. 24, 2008 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Bro. Ray Forrester officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Double Springs.
She is survived by her husband, Rick Pate; sons, Jonathan, Michael and Christopher Pate; brother, Charles Bailey; and sisters, Patricia Hood and Dorothy Marks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Edward and Oneta Gynndelon Bailey.

Travis Richard Oliver

Travis Richard Oliver, 83, of Belgreen passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2008 at Russellville Hospital.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jackie Richardson and Bro. Paul Cummings officiating. Interment will be in Belgreen Community Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Corine Oliver; son, Dewayne Oliver; and grandson, Johnny Oliver.
He is survived by his sons, Tommy Oliver (Kay) of Tuscumbia, Mitchell Oliver (Denise) of Belgreen and Steve Oliver (Sandy) of Frankfort; daughters, Linda Welch (Charles) of Belgreen and Sheila Roger (Cecil) of Hamilton; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Lurla Bell Watson

Lurla Bell Watson, 80, of Vina passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at ECM Hospital in Florence.
She was born Nov. 26, 1926 in Marion County to Homer and Eula Shotts Williams. She was a seamstress for 30 years and a member of Atwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Sept. 22 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Larry Gene Davis officiating. Interment was in Shottsville Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee Watson; brother, Joel Mack Williams; and grandson, Stacy Lane Watson.
She is survived by her children, Homer Lee Watson and wife Bonnie, Shirley Emerson and husband Wilson, Dale Watson, Harold Watson and wife Judy and Michael Watson and wife Shirley, all of Vina; brother, Lowell Williams of Vina; sister, Kate Renfroe of Bessemer; special niece, Carol Nichols of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tim Cantrell, Kevin Watson, Wade Inmon, Brian Upton, Ronnie Criddle, Steven Watson, Gary Williams and Cory Toney.

Jewell Bates

Jewell Bates, 87, of Golden, Miss., passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at Southern Magnolia in Golden.
She was born March 18, 1921 to Benton and Mary Robbins Townsend in Alabama. She was a homemaker and member of Golden Chapel Methodist Church in Golden.
Funeral services were Sept. 22 at Golden Chapel Methodist Church with Bro. Bobby Hankins officiating. Interment was in Ridge Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tuelon Bates.
She is survived by her son, Buford Blaine Bates and wife Sandra of Katy, Texas; daughter, Sherry Shrook and husband Ray of Golden, Miss.; grandchildren, Bradley and Brittany Bates, Leah Shewbart and Ramey Shook; and great-grandchildren, Brooke and Lane Shewbart.
Pallbearers were Barney Nix, Kelly Moore, Lonnie Senter, Joe Bostick, Ramey Shook and Mike Shewbart.

Mattie Ruth Cochran, 75, of Russellville passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.
The visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 in the chapel with Rev. Clint Busler and Rev. Alan Beasley officiating. Burial will follow at Franklin Memory Garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tellie and Silas Randolph.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Connell, Susan (Scott) Godsey and Janelle Fikes; grandchildren, Haley Godsey (Chris) Watkins, Seth Godsey, Jesley Godsey, Stacy Godsey, Addyson Fikes; and sister, Louise Bendall.
Pallbearers will be Terry Bendall, Steve Hester, Freddy Kimbrough, Stephen Pearson, Chris Watkins and Marty Corbell.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Kelly and his staff, the nurses at ECM ICU and the nurses on the sixth floor at ECM.

Dennis F. Aycock, 53, of Russellville passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Robert Aycock and brothers, Brad and Rodney Aycock.
He is survived by wife, Rose Johnson Aycock; sons, Mark Aycock and Paul (Robin) Aycock; stepsons, Frankie and Michael Vandiver; mother, Grace Case Aycock; brother, Larry (Joyce) Aycock; five grandchildren, Kelsey Aycock, Haley Aycock, Madison Hand and Cassie and Sommer Vandiver; nephews, Brandon and Keith Aycock; and niece, Megan Aycock.
