ACS seeks help with program

Cancer affects millions of people every year. The only thing more devastating than being told you have cancer is the treatment for it.
Cancer treatment changes the way you look and the way you feel about your appearance. The American Cancer Society's Look Good, Feel Better program is one way to give cancer patients the ability to fight not just the cancer but also the affects of its treatment.
Franklin County holds its Look Good, Feel Better class quarterly at the Russellville Hospital Community Education Center. The program teaches the patient how to deal with the toll cancer treatment takes on you body which includes skin care during and after treatment, and how to use hats, scarves and wigs.
While the program has a long-time instructor, ACS is seeking additional volunteers to help the course for cancer patients.
"We desperately need volunteers to come in and work with our cancer patients in this program," Beth Faulkner with ACS said.
Breast Cancer Survivor Carol Hall currently instructs the class in Franklin County, but wants to stress there is plenty of room for more volunteers to pitch in and help.
Volunteers should be licensed cosmetologists who wish to give their time to make a cancer patient feel a little better about their appearance so they can concentrate on fighting the disease.
For more information on becoming a Look Good, Feel Better volunteer, call ACS at 256-767-0825.
