    Russellville ends area play unbeaten
    MUSCLE SHOALS – The eighth-ranked Russellville varsity baseball team finished Class 5A, Area 16 play with an unbeaten record as the Golden Tigers (27-9) defeated Muscle Shoals 4-3 Tuesday.
    Jake Ward went 2-for-3, Caleb Mitchell went 2-for-4 and Cory Trapp and Jacob Daniel combined for the victory on the mound by allowing only six hits.
    Belgreen sweeps Mt. Hope, MHBS
    The Belgreen varsity softball team improved to 13-5 Tuesday as the Lady Bulldogs swept Mt. Hope and Mars Hill.
    Belgreen beat Mt. Hope 4-3 as Loren McVicker allowed only five hits while striking out 11 hitters. The Lady Bulldogs also blanked Mars Hill 7-0 as Martha Billingham pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and Katy Britton went 3-for-3 and drove in a run. Amber Smith and McVicker added two hits apiece.
    Mars Hill defeats PC for area title
    FLORENCE – After suffering a 13-3 defeat Monday at Phil Campbell, the Mars Hill varsity baseball team clinched the Class 2A, Area 16 championship by sweeping the Bobcats Tuesday.
    Mars Hill (21-7, 5-2) won the first game as Jordan Abrams earned the victory and Ben Wright drove in three runs and had two doubles. Phil Campbell (17-8, 4-3) was led by Korey Pounders and Dillan Hamby, who each had three hits at the plate.
    In the nightcap, Randy Gooch threw a complete-game 3-2 victory as he allowed six hits and struck out nine hitters. Stephen Lacey took the loss for Phil Campbell despite only giving up five hits.
    PC meet &greet
    April 15
    PHIL CAMPBELL – Phil Campbell High School will host a meet and greet for new varsitiy football coach Michael Parker and junior high coach Ryan Swinney Tuesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the lunchroom. A meal for all football players and cheerleaders will be provided. Plates will cost $5, and everyone is welcome to attend.
    Tharptown 3-on-3 tournament
    April 19
    Tharptown High School will sponsor a 3-on-3 basketball tournament Saturday, April 19 beginning at 9 a.m. in the new gym. The cost is $50 per team and the tournament will benefit the school's basketball program. Each team is guaranteed three games and pool play will determine seeding in the tournament.     Tennis fundraiser
    April 19
    Hospice of North Alabama will sponsor a women's tennis tournament fundraiser Saturday, April 19 at 9 a.m. The round-robin tournament will be held at the Russellville City tennis courts with proceeds going to American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. First and second-place prizes will be awarded, and pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per person, and please come early to finish registration. Light refreshments and doors prizes will be provided. For more information, call Ashley at (256) 810-0215.
    City T-ball league registration
    April 19
    The Russellville Parks and Recreation Department will hold T-ball registration from March 29-April 19 for ages 6-7 years old. Registration is $35 per player or $65 for two players, and the age control date is May 1. Late registration will be April 21-May 3 and includes a $5 late fee. The jamboree will be held Saturday, May 17. For more information, call 332-8770.
    Regional BASS tournament
    May 22-23
    DECATUR – The BASS Club World Championship (BCWC) Regional Tournament is set for Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23 in Decatur.
