Both party races set for the summer

Franklin County Republicans made a strong charge before Friday's qualification deadline, meaning all but two local county offices will be decided beyond party primary elections.
Jerry Fancher, Chairman of the Franklin County Republican Executive Committee, said the GOP will field six applicants for seven open seats, one of which will be on the June primary ballot.
The Republican party won't have a candidate for Commission, District 3 or Franklin County Superintendent of Education.
"I'm pleased with the turnout," Fancher said. "Obviously, we'd like to have at least one candidate for every office but we've got a good field of candidates."
H. B. Humphres and Bryon Moomaw will square off for the School Board District 3 seat in primary two months from now.
Rodney Baker registered to run for Revenue Commissioner.
The remainder of the candidates are all seeking commission seats.
Jack Harris for District 1; Charles Dill for District 2 and Scotty Raper for District 4.
Party primaries will be held June 3.
The Franklin County Democratic Executive Committee qualified several candidates in each race as well.
Two candidates, Gene Ellison and Anthony Prince, both cast their lot for the revenue commissioner's post, while democrats, assistant schools superintendent Gary Williams and Phil Campbell baseball coach Micheal Beck are running for schools superintendent.
Four candidates qualified for the commission one seat. Incumbent Jackie Bradford, Stratt Byars, Michael Murray, Junior Smith.
D. Gene Graham, Howard Hutcheson and Jerry W. King qualified for the district two seat while Rayburn Massey, Donnie Horton and Greg Smith make up the district three race.
Norris B. Lewey and Don Hastings will face off for the district four seat.
