Golden Tiger tennis blanks Trojans 9-0

MUSCLE SHOALS – Three days after edging Class 6A Northridge 5-4 on the road, the Russellville boys tennis team won its 22nd consecutive regular-season match with a 9-0 victory over Muscle Shoals Thursday.
The Russellville junior varsity boys also blanked the Trojans withi a 7-0 victory while the varsity girls, led by No. 1 Calli Davis fell 9-0 to Muscle Shoals and the junior varsity girls lost 8-1.
Defending state champion T.J. Drake led the way for the Golden Tigers at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Karlin Sheffey, while Keifer Rea battled past Demetrious Thompson 6-4, 7-6 for a win at No. 2 and Anthony Turner earned a No. 3 win with a 6-2, 6-0 against Jordan Brisendine.
No. 4 Tyler Malone got past Phillip Berryhill 6-3, 6-2, No. 5 John Tyler Hardin beat Justin Gossett 6-0, 6-4 and Carson Hutchins defeated Luke Yordy 6-0, 6-4 at the sixth spot.
In doubles play, Russellville's Drake-Hardin, Rea-Malone and Hutchins-Turner all won in straight sets to cap the sweep for the Golden Tigers.
The Russellville varsity girls host Shoals Christian at 3 p.m. Monday, March 17, while the junior varsity and varsity play Florence 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at home.
