Red Bay edges Mars Hill 43-41, wins area

Russellville beats Athens 91-69, improves to 20-0

FLORENCE – The fifth-ranked Red Bay girls claimed the Class 2A, Area 16 championship Tuesday night with a 43-41 victory over Mars Hill.
Chelsey McWilliams scored a game-high 23 points, including a go-ahead jump shot for the Lady Tigers with less than a minute remaining.
Sarah Bailey paced the Lady Panthers (12-9) with 18 points.

Decatur Heritage 34
THARPTOWN – The Tharptown varsity girls used a 15-7 run in the second quarter to take control Tuesday night against Decatur Heritage.
Chelsea McCluskey scored 18 points and Braeden Sellers added 16 to lead the Lady Wildcats (8-15).
Lou Ellen Thompson finished with a game-high 19 points for Decatur Heritage.

ATHENS – The Russellville boys breezed past Athens Tuesday night for their 20th straight win this season. The previous school record was 17 consecutive wins, which was set by the state champion 1982 squad.
The Golden Tigers, who moved into the No. 3 spot in the Class 5A state poll this week, were led by a season-high 32 points from shooting guard Jordan Hammond.
Nate Dunstan and Siran Winston each scored 16 points for Russellville (20-0, 5-0).
Chad Bennett led Athens with 20 points.
