Riding in style

Twenty-four students at Russellville Elementary School were treated to a ride in a limousine to and from Pizza Hut Thursday as a reward for their participation in the school's fundraiser.
Parent Volunteer Dawn James said the students who sold at least $250 in merchandise from their catalog sale were treated to the limo ride and a pizza buffet lunch.
"Our fundraiser brought in about $24,000 and the school gets 50 percent of sales," James said.
The proceeds brought in by the fundraiser goes to support the school.
"Last year, the school purchased the big marquee for the front of the school," James said.
Assistant Principal Claudia Askew said the money also helps fund classroom materials along with other expenses.
"We used money from that fund to pay for transportation to the storytelling festival in Red Bay," Askew said.
James said the limo rental was paid for by the catalog company and was not an expense for the school. The limo was provided by Unique Car Care and Limousine Rental in Muscle Shoals.
"The limo driver told me that they go all over the place and that customers that he's driven around include Nick Saban and Taylor Hicks," James said.
She added that top sellers and top selling classrooms will be announced at a later date.
