Town Meet is Held for Candidates
An old-time town meeting nailed down mayoral candidates' views on several points Tuesday night, but failed to develop any big issues in a seemingly listless campaign for Russellville municipal offices Monday, Sept. 17.
The Courthouse meeting was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce at its third quarterly meeting with E.E. Alexander, vice-president, serving as moderator.
Five candidates for mayor sat before about 100 interested residents in the Courtroom to state their platforms and answer questions from those assembled.
Questioning of the candidates touched along the lines of water, schools, indebtedness and industry and frequently was directed at members of the county or city school board, State Rep. W.E. Oden, or members of the City Council rather than the candidates.
Game Reserve Plans Add Interest to County's Forestry Program
Forestry is to the fore in Franklin County. All phases of the industry seem to be going forward as plans are being contemplated for a game reserve, for a "Keep Green" program, for planting more pine seedlings, and, in a less specific way, for future marketing of hardwood.
Plans for the game reserve are just getting underway, according to C.N. McKinney, forest ranger, and C.G. Ayers, game warden.

The Rev. and Mrs. Marvin Palmer have recently moved to Russellville from Columbus, Mississippi. The Rev. Mr. Palmer is here to do associational missionary work with the Franklin County Baptist Association.
