RHS tennis beats Athens

The Russellville High School girls and boys tennis teams each picked up a sectional win over Athens on Tuesday.
Russellville's girls improved to 5-3 overall (3-2 in Class 5A, Section 6) with a 9-0 victory over the Lady Golden Eagles.
Lindsay Cole, Jennifer Fennel, Shayna Glasgow, Olivia Turner, Grace Hagedorn and Calli Davis each won their singles match, and Russellville won all three doubles matches.
Cole and Glasgow won at No. 1 doubles, Fennel and Davis won at No. 2, and Hagedorn and Turner won at No. 3.
In boys action, Russellville (8-1, 5-1) defeated Athens 7-2.
T.J. Drake, Kiefer Rea, John Tyler Hardin, Tyler Malone, Jacob Hill and Anthony Turner all won singles matches, and Malone and Turner teamed to win 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Drake and Hill lost in three sets at No. 1 doubles, and Rea and Hardin lost in three sets at No. 2 doubles.
Russellville traveled to Huntsville on Thursday for a key sectional match.
Huntsville defeated the Golden Tigers last Thursday at RHS, handing Russellville's boys their only loss of the season.
Russellville will have a busy week on the courts next week. They will host Cullman on Monday in a sectional match before traveling to Buckhorn Tuesday for another sectional match.
Russellville's junior varsity teams will host Red Bay on Wednesday.
