Rodney Belue said he is part of a law enforcement family, with his eight years of service joining the years of his brother and father in the business.
Now, Belue has set a new standard for his family members to live up to, by winning the inaugural Franklin County Sheriff's Department Employee of the Year award.
The award, presented at the department's annual Christmas dinner, was voted on by all the members of the sheriff's department, Sheriff Larry Plott said.
It is the first award of its kind ever given out, 'though Plott said he hopes to give the award out for years to come.
Belue said he was the most surprised person in the room when he found out he won the award.
Plott said the award speaks volumes about the type of officer Belue is.
Belue has served for eight years with the sheriff's department, beginning right out of high school when he was hired as a temporary employee. Currently, Belue serves as a process server, serving civil papers for the department throughout the county.
Originally from Baton Rouge, Belue moved to Red Bay when he was 15 and graduated from Red Bay High School. His brother Scotty Belue is a Red Bay police officer, and his dad Randall is a former constable in Franklin County and also worked in a sheriff's department in Louisiana.
