A Lauderdale man was killed Sunday when his vehicle was struck by a freight train as he tried to cross the railroad tracks in Lauderdale.
The collision happened about 9 p.m.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said Boyd Wash, 60, of Lauderdale, died at the scene after the accident on Extension Road.
Calhoun said Wash was driving a 1993 Ford pick-up truck and, "It appears the truck was stalled on the tracks when it was struck."
Calhoun said the accident is under investigation by the sheriff's department. The railroad crossing was marked by a stop sign, he said.
