Roy Moore speaks at local church

When removal of a Ten Commandments monument from a Montgomery, Ala., courthouse sparked debate about the separation of church and state, Evangel Temple was among several Meridian congregations advocating its return.
The monument was placed in the courthouse by then-Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court.
Last year, a federal judge ruled that the monument, when it sat in the building's rotunda, violated the Constitution's ban against government promotion of religion. Moore refused to comply with an order to move it, was overruled by his eight colleagues on the court, and was suspended. The monument was removed.
Appeals for its return were denied by the U.S. Supreme Court and after more than 10 years on the bench, Moore was removed from office.
On Wednesday at 7 p.m., Moore will be guest speaker at Evangel Temple. The topic has been left to Moore's discretion.
Boles said Moore's appearance is one way Evangel Temple is becoming more politically involved.
The pastor encourages area residents to attend Wednesday's program.
Since his removal, Moore has been in demand for speaking engagements across the country.
