There was a time when a varsity high school sports program included football, basketball, baseball, track and maybe golf and tennis.
Times have changed.
At Clarkdale Attendance Center, for example, 14 varsity sports are currently being offered; eight for boys and six for girls.
The Clarkdale boys varsity sports include football, basketball, baseball, cross-country, golf, powerlifting and track. The girls varsity sports include basketball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, soccer, track, and cross country.
Roberson also coaches the fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball teams. He is assisted by Robbie Cooper and Britt Bennett.
Jud Gartman, the longtime head football coach at Enterprise High School, enters his first season as head football coach at Clarkdale. He will be assisted by Joey Etheridge and Wes Roy.
Ronnie Boles coaches the boys varsity basketball team while the girls are coached by Jeff Davis. Veronica Griffith assists Davis while Cooper is the junior high girls coach. Etheridge coaches the powerlifting team.
Mark Taylor heads the boys soccer team while Lea Castleberry is the girls soccer coach. Steve Marlow heads the baseball team, assisted by Scott Gibson and Cary Luke.
Gartman will head the boys track team while Emily Gibson is the girls track coach. Luke will coach the cross-country teams. Boles will coach the golf team.
