Helpful ideas for summer showers

The summer is traditionally a time for weddings and bridal showers. I love hosting bridal showers, and of course my husband wishes I didn't. It takes quiet a bit of effort to get your home and yard ready but it is worth it.
In fact, I just had a "Honey-do and Garden Party" at my home last night. It was a fish fry held by the pool and included the bride and groom-to-be, their families and friends.
The guests brought gifts for the man or woman according to a "honey to do" list. Honey do the yard work, honey do the ironing, etc. It was a lot of fun.
Our gift to the couple was a wheelbarrow, and it was used to put the gifts in as they arrived. Each couple left with a pair of garden gloves with a pack of flower seeds rolled inside and wrapped with ribbon for their favor.
Here are other possible shower themes:
Around the World Shower Each guest is assigned a country and must bring a gift associated with that country. For example, Scotland gifts could include a plaid pillow or a CD of bagpipe tunes. Decorate with paper flags, maps, and serve food from the various countries.
Around the Clock Shower Each guest is assigned a different time of day and asked to bring a gift associated with that time. For example, an afternoon gift could include a teapot or a morning time could include a tray for breakfast-in-bed.
A Shower for the Seasons Each guest is assigned a season. The gift each guest brings to the bride is something that can be used during that season.
Honeymoon Theme (Couples) For wedding couples honeymooning in the tropics, a luau party is always fun. For those honeymooning in Mexico, throw a Mexican fiesta. Guests would bring gifts to be used on their honeymoon, like a beach towel or a travel bag. Make sure to include costumes and decorations to match the theme.
No matter how big or small your shower is there are a few helpful hints to make it easy on you.
Keep it simple. A few well-chosen foods will make your preparation easier and reduce food safety problems.
Plan your menu. Whether an afternoon shower with light refreshments or a brunch/lunch shower with heavier foods, planning is key.
Share the wealth. Invite friends to help with the event. Shared responsibilities can make the event more fun for everyone.

Creamy Chicken Bites
2 cups cooked chicken, finely chopped
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1⁄4 cup onions or any green chilies
Salt and pepper to taste
1 loaf mini pumpernickel bread
Mix together all ingredients and place one heaping spoonful on each slice of bread. Place finished bread slices on a cookie sheet and broil in oven for about five minutes, or until cheese is melted. Garnish with parsley.
