West Lauderdale keeps record perfect on diamond

West Lauderdale, ranked No. 1 in the state by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, improved to 15-0 for the season with a 14-3 win over Lloyd Star in the Hattiesburg tournament on Tuesday.
Parker Temple (5-0) picked up the win for West Lauderdale, allowing three hits and striking out two in two innings. Ricky Gardner closed the game, allowing one hit and striking out five in three innings.
Dave Woods paced the Knights' offense with a double and a triple for three RBIs, and Caleb Dulaney smacked a single and a triple. Jay Warren hit a triple and collected three RBIs, and Drew Snider and Austin Davis each had a double and an RBI.
Clarkdale 3
Bay Springs 1
The Bulldogs evened their record at 5-5 with a win over Bay Springs on Tuesday.
Kyle Boswell (2-3) struck out 15 and allowed four hits to pick up the complete-game victory.
Michael Davis, Kurt Singley and Justin Mosely each hit doubles for the Bulldogs. Singley and Mosely both recorded an RBI.
NE Lauderdale 11
Wayne Co. 0
Corey Chance (4-1) struck out 10 and allowed one hit in four innings of work, as Northeast Lauderdale (10-3) picked up a win over Wayne County on Tuesday.
Jason Prichett and Chris Oubre each swatted three singles for the Trojans. Prichett drove in one run, and Oubre collected three RBIs.
Chad Brunson hit two singles for Northeast, and Jeremy Barnacastle and Nathan Peden each hit doubles.
Enterprise 4
Seminary 0
Wade Weathers missed a perfect game by one walk for Enterprise in the team's win over Seminary on Tuesday.
Weathers, who didn't allow a hit in the win, collected 13 strikeouts in a seven-inning performance to improve his record to 6-0.
Zeb Swain hit two singles for the Bulldogs, and Dennis Watson hit a double. Anthony Rawson notched a solo home run.
Quitman 17
NE Jones 3
Daniel Boyd belted a grand slam home run and finished with six RBIs, and the Quitman Panthers took advantage of 11 Northeast Jones' errors to post a 17-3, five-inning victory Tuesday night at Tiger Field.

Choctaw Central 0
Jared Cavenaugh improved to 4-1 for the season with a two-hit shutout of Choctaw Central on Monday at home. The Cougars improved to 6-6 after the win and collected eight hits in the eight-run win over the Warriors.
Will Pearson and Jonathan Westbrook each had a double in the win for Newton County. Josh Pender and Bud Loper each had a pair of singles to round out the offense for the Cougars.
Lake 8
Noxapater 5
The Hornets won its opening round game in the Lake Invitational on Monday afternoon thanks to a big four-run third inning.
Markus Ricks led the way for Lake with a home run and Kyle Wolfe earned the pitching win for Lake. Joe Edwards took the pitching loss and also led Noxapater at the plate with three hits.
PREP SOFTBALL
Patrician Aca. 10
Wilcox Aca. 2
Kane Andrews struck out eight over four innings to lead Patrician Academy to a 10-2 win over Wilcox Academy on Tuesday.
Andrews, who improved her record to 5-2, surrendered just three hits and did not walk a batter.
The Lady Saints, led by Carley Caudle's 2-for-3 performance, scored five runs in the third inning to go up 6-0 over Wilcox, which got its two runs in the fourth inning.
PREP GOLF
West Lauderdale scored a 307 to finish in the top spot in prep golf action at Lakeview Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Knights' Shane Parker scored a 71 to finish first in the individual standings. Ross McWilliams, L.J. Robinson, Michael Borton and Sam Dulaney are also members of West's team.
Clarkdale came in second with a 329, Quitman finished third with a 349, Northeast Lauderdale tallied a 380 and Southeast Lauderdale scored a 404.

JACKSON (AP) Eric Ebers and Brett Cleveland combined to pitch a two-hit shutout as Mississippi State defeated Louisiana Tech 7-0 on Tuesday night.

HATTIESBURG Southern Miss scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, breaking a 5-5 tie and securing a 9-5 victory over Southeastern Louisiana at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field on Tuesday.

CLEVELAND The Delta State Statesmen (17-7) rallied from a 3-1 deficit, tallying five runs in the fifth inning and then tacking on another seven in the seventh to clinch a 13-3 run-rule victory over the University of Montevallo (13-8) tonight at Ferriss Field.

BRADENTON, Fla. A series of steady improvements turned into a first-place finish for the Ole Miss women's golf team Tuesday afternoon at the annual Waterlefe/USF Invitational. The Lady Rebels, who pick up their first tournament title since Oct. 14, 2001, captured the two-day, 15-team affair by firing rounds of 306, 302 and 318 for a total of 926.
Southern Miss finished with a 314-316-312 942 end in a three-way tie for eighth with South Florida 315-311-316 942 and Kentucky 312-314-316 942,
