Services for Mildred Louise Cobb will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Davey Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Mrs. Cobb, 85, of Lauderdale, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Heartfelt Hospice. She was a member of Lauderdale United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son, Luther Ray Cobb and his wife, Vickey, of Lauderdale; her daughter, Martha Kate Beall and her husband, Jack, of Koscuisko; grandchildren, Jimmy McLaughlin and his wife, Julie; Brian McLaughlin and his wife, Amy; Thad Cobb of Lauderdale; Charlie Cobb of Gulfport; Stand Beall and his wife, Tammy; Tammy Hunt and her husband, Tim; and Lisa Tarver and her husband, John; her great-grandchild, Chandler McLaughlin; brothers and sisters, Merle Carlisle of Vimville; Henry Thompson and his wife, Doris, of Lauderdale; and Willie Frank Thompson and his wife, Norma, of Russell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Cobb.
The family requests memorials be made to Lauderdale United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 67, Lauderdale, MS 39335.
Services for Henry Stringfellow Sr. will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Zachary Finley officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Berry &Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stringfellow, 69, of Meridian, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at his home. He was born Dec. 19, 1934 in Lauderdale County and departed this life March 4, 2004, at 1:25 a.m. in his home. He was the last born of the late Clarence Stringfellow and Christine (Conley) Stringfellow.
Mr. Stringfellow accepted Christ and was baptized at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he faithfully served as assistant superintendent of the Sunday school. He later united with New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Usher Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Sunday school Teacher's Ministry and president of the Male Chorus.
Mr. Stringfellow was a graduate of T.J. Harris High School and attended Meridian Junior College. He gratefully and faithfully served his country. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. He also served in the Army Reserve from 1957-1965 and 1973-1975. He enlisted in the Mississippi Air National Guard from 1975-1988. He retired with 25 years of service.
Mr. Stringfellow's military awards and accomplishments included: Army Good Conduct Medal, Airforce Commendation Medal, Airforce Outstanding Unit Award, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Airforce Longevity Service Award, Arm Forces Reserve Medal of small Arms, Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Airforce Training Ribbon, Army Training Ribbon, Mississippi Magnolia Medal, Mississippi Medal of Efficiency, Mississippi War Medal, Mississippi Service School Medal and the Mississippi Longevity Medal.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Verna (Fountain) Stringfellow; seven children, Henry Earl Stringfellow, Daryl Dewayne Stringfellow, and Lynn Rea Stringfellow, all of San Diego; Carolyn Ikpeama and her husband, Christian, of St Louis; Charlotte Stringfellow Doss of Hattiesburg; and Constance Stringfellow and Henry Stringfellow Jr., both of Meridian; and two brothers, Clint Stringfellow and his wife, Janie, and Cleveland Stringfellow and his wife, Mable; three aunts, Jessie Hardway and her husband, Edward, Burdie Sidney and Annie Jones; his mother-in-law, Estella Fountain of Lake; four other sisters-in-law, Addie Lee, Allie Mae, Charlene and Earlene; one brother-in-law, Paul Jean; 10 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Alexander.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral and one hour prior to the service at the church.
FOREST Services for Sadie M. Gibbs will be held today at 11 a.m. at Pine Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Ott and Lee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gibbs, 92, of Lawrence, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Riley Hospital.
Survivors include her sons, Billy Gibbs of Pachuta and Charles Gibbs of Lawrence; daughters, Myrtis McCrory of Lawrence, Mamie Nester of Lake and Mary Sue Fulton of Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Visitation will be today from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. at the funeral home.
