Five Lamar players get All-State

As if a state championship wasn't enough, the honors keep pouring in for the Lamar Raiders football team.
Five Raiders were named to the Mississippi Private School Association's All-State team last week, tying Lamar with Jackson Prep for the most number of selections from one school.
Offensive lineman Roland Terry, kicker Randy Boyd Thompson and defensive lineman Vaughan Waters were all named to the All-State first team. Quarterback Drew Moffett and running back Lane Rush were both named to the second team.
All five players were three-year starters for the Raiders.
The Raiders went 11-2 en route to the MPSA Class AAA Division II state championship this season. Their run through what Barnes called "arguably the toughest schedule in Lamar School history" pitted them against several other All-State honorees.
Barnes said he hopes tying perennial powerhouse Jackson Academy for the most All-State players is an indication of the program's overall strength.
Earlier this month, three Raiders Moffett, Waters and Terry played in the MPSA All-Star Game in Clinton. Lamar also had a total of 13 players named to the All-AAA team, including eight first team selections.
Lamar was not the only local school represented on the All-State teams. Brooks Lewis of Class A state champion Heidelberg Academy was selected quarterback of the first team. Two other Heidelberg players, defensive lineman Mason Key and linebacker Brent Welch, were second team selections.
