    Lamar gets season's fifth win

    The Lamar School boys improved to 5-1 Tuesday with a 60-41 win over East Rankin.
    Austin Roebuck led the way for the Raiders with 23 points and 16 rebounds. David Haggard added 16 points.
    Lamar's next game is Thursday at home against Leake Academy.
    Heidelberg Aca. 47
    Sylva-Bay Aca. 42
    The boys team earned the team sweep with the narrow win over the Saints in the first round for the boys bracket. Trevor Hickson led the Rebels with 15 points and Ryan Yawn followed with 12.
    John Thompson turned in a great night with 15 points for Sylva-Bay and Dexter Phillips chipped in with 11.
    Kemper Aca. 45
    Newton Co. Aca. 28
    Lake Mosley led the Kemper Academy charge with 13 points to pace the team to the win over the Generals. Kyle Davis also cracked double figures for Kemper Academy with 10 points.
    Dustin McGowin led Newton County Academy with 10 points in the loss on Monday.
    Macon Central 45
    Kemper Academy 44
    Macon Central edged Kemper Academy 45-44 on the strength of Ross Brown's 15 points.
    Tony Sudduth poured in 11 points for Macon, which improved to 5-2. Brandon Stokes led Kemper with 11 points, and Mal Alexander had 10 points.
    Quitman 79
    NE Jones 46
    Quitman's defense strangled Northeast Jones on Tuesday, jumping out to a 19-4 lead in the first quarter before winning 79-46. Prince Trotter led all scorers with 22 points.
    Antoinne McKenzie added 15 points and Xavier Arrington had 13 for the Panthers, who are now 5-3.
    Quitman's next game is Thursday in the first night of the Quitman tournament, when the Panthers will face Kemper County.
    GIRLS BASKETBALL
    East Rankin 43
    Lamar 35
    A slow start crippled the Lady Raiders on Tuesday as they scored just seven points in the first half in a 43-35 loss to East Rankin.
    Led by Cheryl Luquire's 14 points and Lizzie Williams' 11 points, Lamar got back in the game in the second half. Despite outscoring East Rankin 17-6 in the fourth quarter, the Lady Raiders could not rally and fell to 5-4.
    Emily Massey paced East Rankin with 13 points.
    Lamar's next game is Thursday versus Leake.
    NE Jones 64
    Quitman 32
    Despite getting a 14-point performance from Kemonica McGee, the Lady Panthers could not overcome the huge defecit and fell to Northeast Jones. Danseha Williams followed in scoring with 10 points for Quitman.
    Kim Lewis led Northeast Jones with 17 points and Ebony Jefferson also added 14 in the road win.
    Sumter Aca. 47
    S. Choctaw Aca. 45
    Dana Chance hit two free throws in the final minute on Tuesday as Sumter Academy edged South Choctaw Academy 47-45.
    Chance, who finished with six points, hit the free throws with 20 seconds left to break a 45-45 tie. The win improved Sumter's record to 3-2, while South Choctaw is now 2-1.
    Theresa Todd led Sumter Academy, scoring 20 points. Alanna Jackson and Kristi Clark each scored 14 points for South Choctaw.
    Heidelberg Aca. 48
    Wayne Academy 34
    The Lady Rebels opened the first day of the Macon Central Tournament with a 14-point win over Wayne Academy. Whitney Bass was the only Heidelberg Academy player in double figures with 12 points.
    Wayne Academy was led in scoring by Kristen Palmer with 13 points and Erin Wood added nine in the loss for the Lady Jaguars.
    Kemper Aca. 51
    Heidelberg Aca. 43
    Eve Darnell had 18 points to lead Kemper Academy on Tuesday night and helped lead Kemper Academy over Heidelberg Academy 51-43. Kemper improved to 8-2 with the win, while Heidelberg fell to 2-2.
    Courtney Thomas led Heidelberg Academy in scoring with 15 points.
    SOCCER
    NE Lauderdale (girls) 5
    Columbus 0
    Northeast Lauderdale got a hat trick from Danielle Smith, whose three goals were more than enough to lead the Trojans to a shutout win over Columbus on Tuesday.
    Candice White also scored for Northeast Lauderdale, and Brittany Britain added another goal on a penalty kick.
    Codi Holyfield had nine saves for the Lady Trojans.
    NE Lauderdale (boys) 2
    Columbus 0
    Chad Brunson and Paul Tate each scored for Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday as the Trojans pulled out a 2-0 win over Columbus.
    Goalie Kenny Wesley had seven gaves.
