    Obituaries for Monday, Oct. 20, 2003

    Brandon
    BRANDON Services for Leo Jarvis were to be held today at 10 a.m. at Ott &Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Burial was in Brandon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
    Mr. Jarvis, 79, of Brandon, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was a native of Kemper County and a longtime resident of Rankin County. He was a member of Brandon Presbyterian Church where he served as elder emeritus. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a career employee of Southern Natural Gas. He was a former president of the Brandon Lions Club, a member of the Brandon Methodist Bridge Club and an avid gardener. He was a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather.
    Survivors include his wife, Mary Rose Jarvis of Brandon; daughters, Vivien Jarvis Moore and her husband, Jerry, of Brandon and Melba Jarvis Whitaker and her husband, Bishop Tim Whitaker of Lakeland, Fla.; a son, Wendell Jarvis and his wife, Michelle, of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, Amy, Jesse and Daniel Moore, Eric Whitaker, Scott Whitaker and his wife, Michele, Sean Jarvis, and Chelsea and Tiffany Page; a twin sister, Cleo Gully of Preston; a sister, Bobbie Jean Creekmore of Huntsville, Ala.; and a brother, Robert J. Jarvis of Pearl.
    Memorials may be made to Reformed Theological Seminary, 5422 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, MS 39209.
    Tommie Elisha Jenkins
    GILBERTOWN, Ala. Services for Tommie Elisha Jenkins were to be held today at 11 a.m. at Toxey Baptist Church with the Rev. Mack Tester officiating. Burial was to be in Bonner Cemetery.
    Mr. Jenkins, 72, of Toxey, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
    Survivors include his wife, Mae Jenkins of Toxey; two daughters, Brenda Nicodemus and her husband, John, of Anniston and Debbie Wyles and her husband, Larry, of Gilbertown; two brothers, Ocie Jenkins of Cotton Valley, La., and G.C. Jenkins of Culpepper, Va.; a sister, Margery Clark of Toxey; two sisters-in-law, Jessie Smith of Toxey and Linda Jenkins of Semmes; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    Attorney
    DEKALB Services for Helen McDade will be held today at 2 p.m. at Stephens DeKalb Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Read officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Miss McDade, 85, of DeKalb, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at her home. She was an attorney for 53 years with McDade Law Firm. She served 12 years as a state representative in Jackson and was a member of DeKalb Baptist Church. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
    Survivors include her great nieces, Terri Branning, Melissa Carter, Sharon Bryan and Carolyn Lumus; great-great-nephews, Trey Henderson, Kirk Sanders, Jarrod Bryan, Matthew Bryan and Joshua Lumus; great-great-nieces, Carmen Henderson, Shay Bryan and Celeste; great-great-great nieces, Triniti Sudsberry, Eve Henderson and Tori Henderson.
    She was preceded in death by a great-great-niece, Brooke Henderson.
    Services for Ray Peden will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Peden, 80, of Meridian, who died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.- 8p.m. at the Funeral Home.
    Former principal West Lauderdale Elementary
    Services for Marvin Sebern Richardson will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Carl Stephens, David Sellers and Tommy Scarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery.
    Mr. Richardson, 71, of Collinsville, died Sunday. Oct. 19, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was born in Lauderdale County on May 26, 1932, the only child of Marvin and Bertie Richardson. He moved to Michigan in 1955, returning to Mississippi in 1971 and living the remainder of his life within one mile of the site of his birth.
    He held an associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees from East Central Community College, the University of Southern Mississippi and Eastern Michigan University respectively. He was the long-time principal of West Lauderdale Elementary School and felt it one of the greatest honors of his life to serve the friends and neighbors of his home community in that capacity.
    He was very proud also to have served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Korean War veteran and took part in the Allied push north from Pusan in 1951.
    He was a member of Prospect Congregational Methodist Church. He served two terms on the board of directors of the Lauderdale County Farm Supply and was a Lauderdale County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for several years. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi, F&AM Suqualena Lodge 0418, the Lauderdale County Forestry Association, the National Education Association and the Mississippi Association of Educators.
    Survivors include his wife of more than 47 years, the former Elaine Stewart of Flint, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Jackie Larsen and her husband, Mauri, of Sun City West, Ariz., Sally Meads and her husband, Bing, of East Jordan, Mich., Virginia Slocum and her husband, Larry; brothers-in-law, Keith and Michael Stewart, all of Flint, Mich.; an aunt, Fern Richardson of Meridian; a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and his very special friend and mentor, T.S. Pigford.
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
    Pallbearers will be Dick Hoffman, Tom Nance, Tommy Nutt, Jerry Sullivan, Kenneth Todd, Lindy Trowbridge, Dan Meads, Brian Meads and Ron Meads.
    The family requests memorials be made to Hope Village for Children in Meridian.
    Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Disabled veteran
    Services for Willie J. "Terry" Sheffield will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Butler, Ala., with the Rev. Samuel Duff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Sheffield, 47, of Meridian, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at the University Medical Center in Jackson.
    Survivors include his sisters, Christine Walker McNeil and her husband, William, Linda Hodges and her husband, Edward, and Lisa Jenkins and her husband, Joe; brothers, Issac Sheffield, Alfred Sheffield, Lavell Sheffield and Kenneth Sheffield; step children, Shante Stevens, Sinus Stevens and Angelo Stevens, all of Meridian.
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
    Visitation will be today 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
