The second-ranked Wayne County War Eagles will look to continue their impressive year by paying a visit to McComb.
Wayne County was edged out in the recent Associated Press poll by South Panola by a few points this week. The War Eagles earned a 48-0 win at home in front of a jam-packed home crowd this past Friday and Wayne County head coach Marcus Boyles will be looking for much of the same against McComb.
Wayne County poured on the points and the yards in the big win against Madison Central. Quarterback J.J. Taylor had yet another huge night passing for the War Eagles. Taylor was 10-of-19 passing for 131 yards and he also totaled 175 on the ground.
The defense was the theme of the night as Cedric Jones tallied four sacks on defense and several War Eagle players contributed with interceptions. Steve Gandy and Laderry Loper were among the players with interceptions.
McComb (2-0) earned a 20-14 win against Warren Central and looks to knock off Wayne County squad. McComb is ranked eighth according to this week's AP poll.
Other games on the South Area schedule this week include: Oak Forest (La.) Academy at Wayne Academy, Winston Academy at Sylva-Bay Academy, Pascagoula at Quitman, and Kemper County at Heidelberg.
Oak Forest Academy
at Wayne Academy
The Wayne Academy Jaguars will be looking for their second consecutive win as Oak Forest Academy will be coming to Waynesboro for what may be a big showdown. Wayne Academy defeated Sylva-Bay Academy this past Friday 7-0.
The only touchdown of the game was in the first quarter off a 4-yard run by Patton Stanley. The Jaguars were also paced on defense by Garet James, who had an interception in the final seconds of the game to end a Sylva-Bay scoring threat. Oak Forest Academy is the defending Class AA state champion.
Winston Academy
at Sylva-Bay Academy
The Saints will be looking to rebound after a hard district loss to Wayne Academy 7-0. Sylva-Bay (2-1, 0-1) was shutout for the first time this season on the road at Wayne Academy. The Saints were led by a solid rushing performance by Cody Phillips, who totaled over 100 yards.
Winston Academy will be looking to get back on the winning track after a 19-6 setback at the hands of Tri-County Academy. The only touchdown of the game for Winston was on a 10-yard touchdown strike from Pat Peterson to Dusty Warner.
Pascagoula
at Quitman
After a heartbreaking loss to South Jones, Quitman will be looking to get back on the winning track as the Panthers will host Pascagoula. Quitman
