Hitt, Buchanan meet in District 3 primary

Craig Hitt sat and prayed with his family four years ago about his decision to run for a spot on the Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors.
Hitt, who was reared on his family's 100 acres of unspoiled land in Collinsville, said he and his wife of 21 years vowed to make Lauderdale County a better place to raise their two young daughters.
Bobby G. Buchanan, who moved to Collinsville about 18 years ago, said he would like voters to give him a chance to make a difference in the county as a member of the board of supervisors.
Buchanan retired from the Mississippi Air National Guard after 27 years of service, where he worked as an electronics technician at Key Field. He and his wife of 33 years, Peggy, have two sons and four grandchildren.
Hitt and Buchanan will meet in the Aug. 5 Republican Party primary for Lauderdale County District 3 supervisor.
Because no Democrats, independents or third party candidates have qualified to run, the winner of the primary also will win the District 3 seat and begin a new four-year term in January.
Road improvements in District 3 are one of Buchanan's top priorities if elected. Plus, he said, "I'll return phone calls and ride around on a daily basis and make sure that the roads are being taken care of."
Buchanan said he decided to run for office after getting angry over seeing his taxes go up.
Hitt, though, said it's not that simple.
Hitt said he, too, doesn't like to see his taxes go up. But, he said, sometimes it's unavoidable.
Hitt, who owns a timber business and mini-storage, was elected board president during his first term. He said his goal is "to lay a better groundwork for the future for not only my family but all families in Lauderdale County,"
