NE Lauderdale track and field athletes going to state

The Northeast Lauderdale track and field team recently participated in qualification trials for the south state meet, which is to be held this Saturday at Hancock County High School.
Making the grade and the trip to Hancock County will be Melissa Brents, Quin Jackson, Yolanda Truman, Cedric Blanchard and Marcus Betts.
Brents won the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:13 and the came in second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:03.
Jackson set a school record in the girls discus with a throw of 110-feet 4 and came in second in the shot put with a toss of 33-feet 41⁄4.
Truman will be representing the Lady Trojans in the 400-meter dash, after setting a school record with a time of 63.31.
On the boys side, Blanchard school record time of 52.19 in the 400-meter dash was good enough to earn a trip and Betts heaved the metal sphere 46-feet 21⁄2 in the shot put.
Meridian Wildcats
The Meridian High boys track and field team recently participated in the and in the Region 3-5A track meet and finished third overall with a score of 96 points.
Ten different Wildcats finished fourth or better in different events at the meet, which guarantees them a spot in the south state competition at Gulfport High School on Saturday.
Quarius Hodges took second place honors in the shot put and third place honors in the discus at the meet.
Jeremy Crowell will represent the Wildcats in the 100 and 200-meter dashes with two third place finishes a the regional meet. Crowell will also participate in the 4×200-meter relay and the 4×100 meter relay.
Peter Davidson notched a first place finish in the 3200-meter run and the 1600-meter run. Davidson also finished second in the 800-meter run.
Chris Ford took the first place victory for Meridian in the 800-meter run.
Florian Warner came in second in the 3200-meter run and placed fourth in the 1600-meter.
Londrieuse Boyd, Anthony Ratcliff and Jamie Hill will join Crowell on the 4×200 and 4×100-meter relays.
Hill, Ratcliff, Justin Stephens and Nicholas Naylor will also make the trip to south state with a third place finish in the 4×400-meter relay.
Lamar Raiders
The Lady Raiders recently took home second place in the Heritage Academy Tournament in Columbus in MPSA girls softball action.
Lamar posted a record of 4-2 in the tournament and contributed three players to the all-tournament squad.
Making the all-tournament team was Keri Mathis, Lizzie Williams and Sara Millicent Mitchell.
Highlighting the Lady Raiders on the weekend of action were a number of players.
Williams got the job done at the plate for the Lady Raiders over the weekend posting a batting average of .761 (16 of 21) with 23 RBIs and three home runs.
Mitchell went 10-13 at the plate with five RBIs, Mathis added a 5-7 outing with a home run and four RBIs.
Jennie Scrivner went 4-7 with a home run and six RBIs on the weekend.
Lady Raider winning scores form the weekend included a 15-0 pounding of Victory Christian, 19-8 over Macon-Central, 13-1 over Grace Christian and a 22-4 win over hosting Heritage.
Lamar dropped the championship game to Kemper Academy 19-18. The Lady Raiders are now 10-6 for the season.
