MLT announces best actor, actress nominations

Meridian Little Theatre turns 70-years-old this year.
In celebration of its anniversary, the theater is holding a 70th Anniversary Gala on May 22.
During the event, awards will be handed out to the best actors and actresses in a musical, comedy or drama. Awards also will go to best supporting actors and actresses in the same categories.
The trophy will be called an "Austin," named after the founder of the Meridian Little Theatre Marjorie Woods Austin.
Here's a look at the nominees
Best actor in a musical:
Earl Aycock Jr. as Bill Snibson in "Me and My Girl."
Ken Patterson as The King in "The King and I."
Jack Sariego as Harold Hill in "The Music Man."
John Robert Smith as Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol."
Best actress in a musical:
Sidney Covington as Louise in "Always … Patsy Cline."
Twyla Hurst as Maria in "The Sound of Music."
Ginger G. Stevens as Anna in "The King and I."
Angela White as Patsy in "Always … Patsy Cline."
Best actor in a comedy or drama:
David Miller as Ten Characters in "A Tuna Christmas."
Chet Estep as Otto Frank in "They Diary of Anne Frank."
John Johnson as Hoke Coleburn in "Driving Miss Daisy."
Stan Torgerson as Big Daddy in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
Best actress in a comedy or drama:
Lisa Carruth as Blanche in "Streetcar Named Desire."
Sidney Covington as Charlotte Hay in "Moon Over Buffalo."
Jennie Crumbaugh as Daisy Werthan in "Driving Miss Daisy."
Sara Margaret Huff as Anne Frank in "The Diary of Anne Frank."
Best supporting actor in a musical:
Bob Hermetz as Alfred P. Doolittle in "My Fair Lady."
David Miller as Melvin in "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."
Monte Royal as Rooster Hannigan in "Annie."
Greg Snowden as Sancho in "Man of La Mancha."
Best supporting actress in a musical:
Jennie Crumbaugh as Mrs. Higgins in "My Fair Lady."
Twyla Hurst as Anna in "Annie."
Susie Johnson as Lady Thiang in "The King and I."
Heidi Swanson as Miss Hannigan in "Annie."
Best supporting actor in a comedy or drama:
Van McCarty as Mr. Van Daan in "The Diary of Anne Frank."
Lee Meyer Jr. as Boolie Werthan in "Driving Miss Daisy."
Derek Pouncey as Juror No. 10 in "Twelve Angry Men."
Monte Royal as Ray-Bud in "Dearly Departed."
Best supporting actress in a comedy or drama:
Diana Bird as Edith Frank in "The Diary of Anne Frank."
Frances Davis as Mrs. Van Daan in "The Diary of Anne Frank."
Donna Knight as M'Lynn in "Steel Magnolias."
Millie Robinson as Annelle in "Steel Magnolias."
