As charges of corruption and wrongdoing by certain officers and former officers at the 186th Air Refueling Wing continue to mount, the need becomes more apparent for ongoing investigations to be completed. Taxpayers deserve a full accounting of all the facts; at the same time, substantiated allegations of racial bigotry, favoritism and fraud must not simply be dismissed.
Many, many eyes across the nation are now focused intently on the 186th, awaiting word on an investigation being conducted by Col. Ken Emanuel of the Florida Air Guard. A report by the U.S. Air Force Inspector General has already been compiled, but it has pretty much been put on hold while the Emanuel probe goes on.
The Emanuel investigation should be completed as quickly as possible and then, coupled with the Inspector General's report, the spotlight will be even more intense on Gov. Ronnie Musgrove to do something that will fix the problems and ensure they do not crop up again.
