Games' opening ceremonies set for June 20

The State Games of Mississippi are right are right around the corner and entry forms are now available for the state's premier sporting event.
The State Games of Mississippi begins June 20 here in Meridian and will feature 28 sporting events.
The sportsfest can best be described as amateur olympics and seeks to bring the best athletes that Mississippi has to offer. In the past, the State Games have attracted over 5,000 participants for the events.
This year's games will sponsor two new events that have been added to the field of competition. A kayak biathlon will be held on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and a mountain biking series which will be held in three different area around the state.
The kayak biathlon will consist of two separate events within the category. The first event will consist of a one-mile run, two-mile kayak, and a one-mile run. The second event is a two-mile kayak and a five kilometer run.
The sporting events will take place on two separate weekends from June 20-22 and June 26-29.
The State Games of Mississippi is open to all amateur athletes and participant sin past years have ranged in age from 4 to 92.
