Vandalism defendants get new court date

The trial of eight Northeast Lauderdale students indicted on charges ranging from burglary to destroying public property after a vandalism spree at three rival high schools has been delayed.
The vandalisms occurred Oct. 2 at Meridian High School, Southeast High School and West Lauderdale High School.
A Lauderdale County grand jury indicted the eight teen-agers in November. Each is represented by his own attorney.
A court official said additional time was needed before the defendants go to trial, or enter a plea, because damage estimates are not yet available from Southeast High School.
Circuit Judge Robert Bailey set a new court date for May 28.
