Meridian gets ready to repair streets

Now that Meridian has decided to borrow $6 million to pave and repair city streets, the next step is for leaders to agree on a final list of projects based on priority.
That list should be completed as soon as possible. Actually, we believe it should have been completed well before the city council gave its final approval to the loan last week.
But given the poor condition of many streets and the fact that Meridian officials appear committed to eliminating problems that have come close to ruining many a car we and, we believe, many residents are willing to give the city a little time.
That, however, doesn't mean they have forever.
Details and information about all planned street and road improvements, including a final list of specific streets targeted for repairs, should be made available to the people no later than the end of the month.
After all, Mayor John Robert Smith was quick to propose and city councilmen were quick to approve the $6 million loan an amount than includes an extra $1 million the councilmen added to the pot.
Now, the mayor and council should be just as quick to tell the taxpayers what will be bought with the money.
The bottom line is simple: People deserve to know the specifics. They deserve to know a specific timetable for the projects. And they deserve to know it all this month.
