The Raiders of Lamar School didn't get off to the start they had hoped for in district play, as Copiah Academy came to Jim Wall Field and beat Lamar 13-6 on Tuesday night.
The Colonels used just four hits on the night and 11 Lamar walks and six Raiders' errors to take the win.
The Raiders drop to 3-2 on the year with the loss. Lamar will travel to play Copiah in a district double-header on Friday.
Lamar jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Daniel Harrison started the opening-inning rally with a double off the wall, and Blake Olmstead followed with a walk.
After a fielder's choice and a ground out, Randy Boyd Thompson ripped a double to bring in two runs. He later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0.
After Copiah scored a run in the top of the second, Lamar scored a run in the second to make the score 4-1. Drew Moffett doubled off the wall to bring in Olmstead.
The game fell apart for the Raiders in the top of the third inning, as Copiah put nine runs on the board.
Patrick Williams singled and Jake Greer walked. After a strikeout, the Raiders made a mistake in the field to load the bases.
Shelby Ford brought in a run with a single, and Greer scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-3.
Jed Stevens walked to bring in a run, and Jay Johns followed with a ground ball to third. The throw home went wide and Copiah scored two runs on the play to make the score 6-3.
Another error allowed another run to score, and Greer brought in the eighth run of the game for Copiah with a fielder's choice. An infield hit by Reese Berry brought in another run.
Ford walked later in the inning to bring in the final run of the inning and make the score 10-4.
Copiah scored another run in the top of the fifth to make the score 11-4.
The Raiders scored a run in the fifth inning, as David Haggard came in on a wild pitch to make the score 11-5.
Copiah added two more runs to its lead in the seventh inning. Berry doubled and Josh Errington walked with two outs. After Ford loaded the bases, Thomas Greer singled to bring in two runs.
Lamar added one run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single by Moffett to make the final score 13-6.
