Two men being held in connection with the weekend shooting death of 23-year-old William Gill could be formally charged in the case today.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said he expected charges to be filed by noon today against Glen Stevens, 16, and Jermaine Ramsey, 18.
Calhoun said the two could be charged with either murder or capital murder: "We are not exactly sure of all the details that led up to the homicide. The investigation is ongoing."
The two have been held for questioning since Sunday after Gill's body was found by the side of the road near Highways 496 and 19 South early Saturday.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie said at a news conference Monday that Gill, of Meridian, died of multiple gunshot wounds from a small-caliber handgun. Sollie said Gill's GMC Yukon was found abandoned at an undisclosed location Sunday.
He said a tip from a concerned citizen led law enforcement officers to the arrest of Stevens and Ramsey.
Sollie also said physical evidence gathered at the crime scene revealed that Gill most likely died by the side of the road where his body was found.
The investigation is a joint effort between the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
