Lauderdale County School Board members set March 21 at 9 a.m. as the hearing date for a county public school teacher who was terminated last week.
Board members set the date during a specially-called meeting on Tuesday. Members also hired Newton attorney Rex Gordon Jr. to hear the case.
The board would not release the name of the teacher or the school where she was employed. It is up to the teacher to decide if the hearing will be open or closed to the public.
School board attorney John Compton told the board that Gordon will hear the teacher's testimony; the transcript from the hearing will be turned over to the board.
The final decision will be up to the school board.
Lauderdale County Schools will be responsible for the cost of the attorney.
