Mike Moore

Mississippi Attorney General Mike Moore may be giving up his position, but we would be surprised if he fades from the political scene forever. As The Star's assistant managing editor, Terry Cassreino, writes elsewhere on this page today. Moore is bold and brash. We might add that he has the kind of political ego that isn't likely to be satiated outside the limelight. And, frankly, that may well be a good thing.
As one of this state's longest serving elected officials, Moore has challenged convention and embraced change. He fought fiercely with former Republican Gov. Kirk Fordice and, from time to time, also had his differences with Democratic Gov. Ronnie Musgrove.
In a world of look-alike politicians, Moore looks like, well, himself. He has the easy mannerisms of one who just stopped by to chat, feet propped up on the desk and conversation flowing freely.
We should like that kind of thing in our politicians, too many of whom are way too uptight.
So, as Mike Moore prepares to pack up four terms worth of memories from the attorney general's office and enter what will certainly be a more lucrative private law practice (for the time being), we remind those who would seek to replace him in the lineup: What was true years ago is still true today never, never get between Mike Moore and a television camera.
