Voters in Newton and Decatur return to the polls today to decide runoff elections for open seats on both city's board of aldermen.
In Newton, Ward 3 voters will choose Eric McCalphia or Eva McDonald. In Decatur, Ward 1 voters will choose Max Anderson or Bobby Stevens.
McCalphia and McDonald made the Newton runoff last week after leading a field of four candidates. They hope to replace former Alderman Charles Love, who died Jan. 2.
McCalphia is a leather dye cutter for La-Z-Boy, while McDonald owns and operates a day care center. The winner will represent an area comprised mostly of Newton's west side.
Anderson and Stevens made the Decatur runoff last week by leading a three-man field. They hope to replace Mike Miller, who resigned from the board after he moved out of the city.
Anderson is a dairy farmer, while Stevens is a contractor and dirt hauler. The winner will represent an area east of Highway 15.
Polls are open until 7 p.m. today at the respective city halls.
