East Central sweeps pair from EMCC

SCOOBA East Central Community College swept East Mississippi Community here on Thursday night in a pair of close basketball games.
The Lady Warriors came away with a very close 67-61 victory while the Warriors used late pressure to come away with a 70-58 win over the Lions.
In the women's game, the Lady Warriors took control of the game late in the second half to go to the victory and improve to 4-3 on the season.
The Lady Lions jumped out to a lead in the first half. EMCC stretched a lead out to seven points with a 9-2 run to make the score 19-12 with 8:21 left in the half.
The Lady Warriors came back to tie the game with three minutes remaining in the first frame. ECCC held the lead until the final minute of the half. With 30 seconds left, however, Katrina Barr hit a three-pointer to give the Lady Lions the 30-29 lead at half.
Rita Birden finished the game with 15 points for East Central while Tamekia Foley and Kimyatta Viverette added in 13. Thomas led EMCC with 14 while Barr hit for 13.

The Lions came on strong in the second half, but East Central turned up the defensive intensity to take a 70-58 win.
East Central controlled most of the first half and held a six-point lead for the majority of the time. East Mississippi made a strong run in the second half to take a lead. The Lions outscored the Warriors 18-8 in the early part of the half, but caught East Central too quickly. Corey Hornsby led East Central with 24 points while Anthony Johnson scored 17 and Reginal Roby scored 15 to lead the Lions.
