Whitney Ward
Northeast Lauderdale eighth grader Whitney Ward had her best run of the cross country season at the best time, the State 4A Meet. Ward finished 26th in the state after turning in a time of 19:55.53.
The State 4A Meet was held last Saturday at the Choctaw Trails on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.
Teammate Melissa Brentz was 13th in the event with a time of 18:18.42. Thiquita Portis was 39th. As a team, the Lady Trojans finished fifth overall with 163 points.
With Ward running so well at the big meet, she will be looked to carry the mantle next season since Brentz and April Lussier are both seniors.
Saltillo won the 4A team title just edging out Pearl 53 to 55. Oxford was third followed by D'Iberville with 138.
