West Lauderdale rolls past SEL boys

West Lauderdale captured its second straight Lauderdale County boys' basketball championship with a 52-38 victory over Southeast Lauderdale Saturday night at Meridian Community College.
Southeast led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter and held a 17-6 advantage following a free throw by Alex West with 5:39 remaining in the first half.
West responded with an 11-0 run to take a 20-17 lead on a basket by Chris Seaphus with 2:03 to go in the first half and the Knights would not trail again. A basket by Karlos Lewis and a layup by Boo Ramsey put the Knights up 24-18 at the break.
West got a 3-pointer from Ramsey for an early 27-20 lead in the third quarter only to have the Tigers battle back to within 27-25 on a 3-pointer from Windham Campbell and a basket by Lapatrick Carlisle.
Southeast got to within 29-28 on another trey from Campbell with 2:23 showing in the third period.
A pair of baskets by Calvin Moore in the final minute of the period sent the Knights into the final period with a 35-30 lead.
A layup by Ramsey extended the lead to 41-32 with 6:21 to go.
Southeast battled back to within 41-36 on a basket by Lamar Crowell with just under six minutes left.
Ramsey hit a 3-pointer at the 5:09 mark and a two-pointer with 3:25 remaining for a 46-36 lead and Southeast never got closer than eight points after that.
Moore and Ramsey both had 16 points to lead West, 5-0. Lewis scored nine.
Campbell hit three 3-pointers to lead Southeast, 2-2, with 16 points. Carlisle added nine.

Clarkdale 42
The Trojans led 43-20 at halftime in whipping Clarkdale in the early boys' game.
Northeast, 1-4, was led by Harold Grace's 17 points, 12 of which came in the first half during which he hit three 3-pointers. Alex Ford added 12 points, eight of which came in the first half. Maurice Langston scored nine and Roland Brown had eight. All 11 Trojans who played scored.
Clarkdale, 0-3, was led by Brandon Mabry's 14 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Rocky Kirksey tossed in seven.
