An anti-drug expert from the West Coast will be among the featured speakers at the state Sheriffs Association's winter conference, to be held next month in Meridian.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie said the war on drugs is of particular importance to his fellow sheriffs, so on Nov. 13, they will convene at the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy at Naval Air Station Meridian.
There, E. Mick Mollica will talk about crystal methamphetamine laboratories which have been a recurring problem in Mississippi.
Mollica is a retired California Department of Justice special agent. He consults numerous law enforcement officers and also consults the RCTA.
The RCTA provides training to law enforcement officers and national guardsmen involved in counterdrug support missions.
The conference will be from Nov. 12 through Nov. 14 and based at the Howard Johnson at 110 U.S. 11/80.
Sollie is first vice president of the Sheriffs Association, which traditionally meets in the summer and the winter. Sollie is seeking to confirm the speaker for the association's banquet, set for the evening of Nov. 14.
