Softball enters last week of season

The end is near for many slow-pitch softball teams as only those making the state playoffs will be in action after Saturday.
The playoffs are slated to open on Oct. 15 with the finals set for Oct. 26 in Jackson.
Today in Division 6-1A, Union hosts Noxapater, Lake goes to Edinburg, and Sebastopol hosts Nanih Waiya.
In 5-3A, Newton County can wrap up the league championship with a win over Philadelphia tonight at Decatur in a makeup contest from last Thursday. Also in 5-3A, West Lauderdale travels to Carthage for another makeup of last Thursday's rainouts.
In non-division action, Newton travels to Forest.
On Tuesday, in 4-5A, Meridian goes to Northwest Rankin with the division's runner-up spot at stake. Brandon has already clinched the league title.
In 5-2A, Clarkdale hosts Enterprise and Newton hosts Taylorsville.
In 2-4A, Neshoba Central visits Noxubee County and Louisville goes to New Hope.
In 5-3A, Philadelphia hosts West Lauderdale and Choctaw Central goes to Carthage.
In non-division action, Southeast Lauderdale hosts Division 5-4A champion Northeast Lauderdale.
The private schools will have the MPSA Academy Overall Tournament on Tuesday at Mississippi College.
On Wednesday, Nanih Waiya hosts Union in a 6-1A makeup contest at 3:30 p.m. with the league championship at stake. In a non-division contest, Northeast Lauderdale hosts Newton County at 4 p.m. The contest was originally slated for today at Decatur.
On Thursday, in 2-4A, Neshoba Central goes to Louisville.
In non-division games, Clarkdale hosts Southeast Lauderdale, Meridian goes to Quitman, Union hosts Newton County, Carthage visits Edinburg, Lake goes to St. Andrew's, and Sebastopol hosts South Leake.
On Saturday, in non-division action, Meridian hosts Northeast Lauderdale at noon, while Newton County hosts Brandon at 5 p.m. and Clarkdale at 7 p.m.
