First Lt. Cynthia Lea Sullivan of Meridian and First Lt. Jonathan Henry Smith of Sterling, Kan. were married Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at 6 p.m. at Eighth Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Edsol Wells officiating.
Parents of the couple are Henry and Peggy Sullivan of Meridian, and Wendell and Yu Yen Smith of Sterling.
Nuptial music was provided by Barry Germany, pianist; Maj. Rich Gaddis, trumpeter; and the Rev. Barry Burris, soloist. The Rev. Donald Gentry asked the wedding blessing.
The bride was given in marriage by her father and wore a satin off-the-shoulder gown with beading and pearls embroidery on the bodice and along the hemline. The full skirt swept into a cathedral-length train with lace accenting the hem. She wore a fingertip-length veil of silk illusion trimmed with satin piping. Her bouquet of roses was hand-tied with satin ribbons.
Dianna Toy of Memphis, Tenn., served as matron of honor. Jamie Raines of Mandeville, La., and Cady Jo Keller of Meridian, both nieces of the bride, were flower girls.
First Lt. Aaron Ludwick of Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., served as best man.
Sabre bearers were Capt. Bryce Butler of Key Field Air National Guard Base, Meridian, Capt. Matt Enfield of Grand Forks AFB, N.D., First Lt. Christian Leonhard of Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, First Lt. Christopher Paulhamus of Scott AFB, Ill., Cadet David Smith of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo., brother of the bridegroom, and First Lt. Michael Stoddard of McChord AFB, Wash.
Program attendants were Jacob Cooper and Joshua Raines, nephews of the bride.
A reception was held at Merrehope following the ceremony. Hostesses were Jeri Johnson, Karen Harrison, Shannan Ward, Kelly Lucas and Stacy Raines. Tea girls were Kayla Collier and Rebekah Nicklas.
After a honeymoon in Bay Saint Louis, the couple resides in Pensacola, Fla.
